Remove the nut that holds the horizontal rod to the body of the pop up stopper. Test to see if water is leaking around the flange by plugging your drain with a rubber stopper. Use channel lock pliers in quick short bursts to break the seal. You have saved items.

Unscrew the delta faucet handle by hand and use an allen wrench to loosen the set screw that holds the handle body in place. Reattach the nut that holds the horizontal rod to the pop up body.
